Summer Walking Tours

Plan on joining the Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board for one or more of this summer’s walking tours of Bozeman historic districts! Tours will include historic Main Street, the Cooper Park and Bon Ton historic districts, and potential historic districts on North Church Avenue and at MSU. And there will be an autumn tour of Sunset HIlls cemetery as well!

Fire exhibit at the Pioneer Museum

The Pioneer Museum, located in the old Gallatin County Jail building on Bozeman’s Main Street, has completed a special exhibition featuring the buildings lost in the March 2009 downtown explosion. The display includes historic photos as well as a timeline showing occupants of the buildings over the years.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11AM to 4PM. Extended summer hours will begin on Memorial Day: Monday through Saturday, 10AM to 5 PM.

Our theme this year is “Bozeman’s Depression Era,” and we have an intriguing variety of activities scheduled, highlighted by a May 27 screening of the classic 1940 film The Grapes of Wrath at the historic Ellen Theatre.

Friends of the Story Mansion

Bozeman has a new preservation advocacy organization -- the “Friends of the Story Mansion” is a local nonprofit group dedicated to encouraging the preservation and public reuse of the community’s significant historic home.

2009 Homeowners Seminar

Join the Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board for a free seminar at the Bozeman Public Library, 626 East Main St. on March 7, 2009. The seminar begins at 10am and sessions will be as follows:

10:15am- 9:50am: The City of Bozeman’s Certificate of Appropriateness Process and Tax Abatement for Historic Preservation
11:00am-11:50am: Researching the History of a Property
12:00pm- 1:30pm: “Greening” Historic Buildings- Effective Methods for Increasing Energy Efficiency in Older Structures
